Travel by public transport to the Seiser Alm cable car, then arrange the complimentary hotel collection from its mountain station.
In winter conditions, guests can ski from and return to the hotel. Check current snow, piste and lift status.
MoDus Architects retained the original refuge and wrapped its southern side in a broad timber structure beneath a wing-shaped roof.
Timber architecture, red spruce and fir details, mountain hay and work by South Tyrolean artists connect the interiors to the plateau.
Strong colour, patterned fabrics, collected furniture and contemporary art give every shared space a distinct character.

Visit the official hotel websiteICARO began as a small mountain refuge in 1936, and that first building still sits at the heart of the family-run hotel. MoDus Architects drew a broad timber structure across its southern side, opening terraces and windows towards the Sciliar. Above it, a roof shaped like outspread wings gives the house a bold outline against the Alpe di Siusi plateau.
The 29 rooms and suites turn that outlook into part of the interior. Some project towards the horizon, while others wrap timber around quieter reading corners. Strong pinks, oranges and blues sit beside patterned fabrics, sculptural furniture and changing contemporary art. The entrance Art Wall and works spread through the pool, restaurant and stairways make the collection feel woven into daily life.
Winter mornings can begin on skis directly from the hotel when snow and lifts are running. Return to an indoor-outdoor pool facing the mountains, a garden Finnish sauna and a compact spa with steam, infrared heat and a mountain-hay relaxation room. Dinner follows in the Sciliar-facing restaurant, bringing a warm and easy close to a day lived almost entirely on the plateau.
Alpe di Siusi, also called Seiser Alm, is a broad high plateau and Alpine pasture in the Dolomites. Compatsch is the main arrival point on the plateau, reached by a 15-minute cable car from Siusi allo Sciliar. Protected-landscape rules limit road access while the cable car operates.
Alpe di Siusi has wide, mostly easy pistes, while the linked Val Gardena area adds steeper terrain under the same ski pass. Both sit within Dolomiti Superski. Sellaronda takes a longer chain of connections from the plateau, so plan it as a full ski day.
The plateau has dozens of mountain huts for a break between runs. Menus move between Alpine and Mediterranean cooking, with speck dumplings, filled Schlutzkrapfen pasta and Kaiserschmarrn among the South Tyrolean staples to look for.
In winter conditions, guests can start skiing directly from the hotel on Alpe di Siusi. For the journey back, ask reception which marked route or lift connection fits the day's conditions, and check the live snow and lift report before setting out.
