Inside Grand Hotel Belvedere

Grand Hotel Belvedere has the romance of Wengen's grand-hotel era without feeling trapped in it. The former Wengener Hof of 1898 and the 1912 Belvedere have been brought together by Swiss practices Complete Works and Clavien & Associés, with restored beams, carved columns, frescoes and glass chandeliers set against pale pine, tactile fabrics and quietly contemporary furniture.

That balance continues through the 90 rooms and suites, where spruce or pine joinery, lime-finished walls, green granite and wool feel closely tied to the Bernese Oberland. Downstairs, Brasserie Belvedere takes care of dinner, Sonnenbad catches the daytime light, and Belvi Salon and Bergwald Bar create inviting corners for a drink. Breakfast is included, while balconies and Jungfrau views depend on the room category.

The boldest new addition is the low concrete spa between the historic buildings, centred on a heated indoor-outdoor pool with an ice bath, sauna, hammam and Jungfrau-facing relaxation room. In winter, the hotel shuttle links Wengen station and the Männlichen gondola, smoothing the start and end of a ski day. Back at the hotel, the warm pool and quiet spa make a particularly appealing counterpoint to the snow outside.
