Inside COMO Alpina Dolomites

At around 1,800 metres on Alpe di Siusi, COMO Alpina Dolomites feels closely tied to the plateau. Quartzite and timber wrap the main hotel and circular chalet building, while the entrance narrows like a rock crevice. Inside, broad windows, natural wood and South Tyrolean-made furnishings keep the Dolomites in view.

Rooms begin at a generous 50 square metres. Mountain Suites add a living room, fireplace and private infrared sauna, while the largest chalet suites bring one or two bedrooms together with living and dining space. At lunchtime you can ski into Alpina Chalet Grill and Bar. Sassolungo, Trattoria Dell’Alpe and the cake-laden afternoon table in the lobby give evenings and slower days their own rhythm.

The simplest ski mornings begin at the door, with equipment rental and preparation handled on site. Back inside, COMO Shambhala spreads the recovery time between a 22-metre indoor pool, a smaller heated outdoor pool, saunas, steam rooms and cold therapy. A hay bath, yoga and sports massage offer gentler ways to reset before the next day outside.

Getting there

A guide to Alpe di Siusi

Orientation

Alpe di Siusi, also called Seiser Alm, is a broad high plateau and Alpine pasture in the Dolomites. Compatsch is the main arrival point on the plateau, reached by a 15-minute cable car from Siusi allo Sciliar. Protected-landscape rules limit road access while the cable car operates.

Skiing

Alpe di Siusi has wide, mostly easy pistes, while the linked Val Gardena area adds steeper terrain under the same ski pass. Both sit within Dolomiti Superski. Sellaronda takes a longer chain of connections from the plateau, so plan it as a full ski day.

Food and drink

The plateau has dozens of mountain huts for a break between runs. Menus move between Alpine and Mediterranean cooking, with speck dumplings, filled Schlutzkrapfen pasta and Kaiserschmarrn among the South Tyrolean staples to look for.

Good to know

Can I ski directly from COMO Alpina Dolomites?

Yes. You can ski from the hotel onto Alpe di Siusi, with equipment rental, fitting and servicing on site. Snow and lift operations shape the best route each day, so check the current access before setting out. Sellaronda is a longer full-day outing with onward connections from the plateau.

How do the Alpe di Siusi road restrictions affect hotel guests?

The uphill road generally closes to private traffic from 09:00 to 17:00 while the cable car runs. Booked guests can still drive to their accommodation at any time on arrival day when the host has issued the access permit. During your stay, hotel-to-Compatsch journeys are allowed before 10:00 and after 17:00. Send your car details before travel so the hotel can prepare the permit.

Can I reach COMO Alpina Dolomites by cable car with luggage?

The Siusi–Alpe di Siusi cable car takes about 15 minutes to reach Compatsch near the hotel during its operating season. A standing hotel collection service from the mountain station is not listed, so arrange the luggage-friendly final step with the hotel before travel. The hotel can then guide you around the current cable-car dates and road rules.

Which airport is best for COMO Alpina Dolomites?

Bolzano is the closest airport, with an approximate drive of 50 minutes when traffic and conditions allow. Innsbruck is the broader international alternative at approximately one hour and 45 minutes by road. Car-hire guests should confirm cross-border terms from Innsbruck, and the hotel can arrange a private transfer from either airport on request.

What are the rooms and suites like?

Rooms and suites start at 50 square metres across the main and circular chalet buildings. Some add balconies or terraces, fireplaces, private infrared saunas, kitchenettes or a second bedroom. Choose by layout to match the space and facilities you want.

What is in the COMO Shambhala spa?

There is a 22-metre indoor pool, a seven-metre heated outdoor pool, Finnish and bio-herb saunas, salt and aromatic steam rooms, Kneipp basins and cold therapy. There is also a gym and yoga. Bookable treatments include sports massage and a South Tyrolean hay bath.

Is COMO Alpina Dolomites suitable for families?

Yes. Several room categories sleep two adults and two children, while two-bedroom suites add separation for longer stays. Play by COMO welcomes children aged four to twelve with seasonal activities and child-friendly menus.

What is dining like at COMO Alpina Dolomites?

Three restaurants cover an open-fire slope-side grill, Sassolungo for hotel guests and the northern Italian Trattoria Dell’Alpe. The lobby lounge adds complimentary afternoon cakes and savoury snacks before evening drinks. Daily breakfast is currently included. Choose the rate that matches any lunch or dinner plans.

When is COMO Alpina Dolomites open?

The hotel operates seasonally, with winter stays currently running from December to March and summer or autumn stays from June to October. Check the exact opening dates for your intended stay before fixing travel around the plateau.
