Inside Suvretta House

Suvretta House has been looking out over the Upper Engadine since 1912, when hotelier Anton Bon and Swiss architect Karl Koller opened their turreted grand hotel above St. Moritz. The scale is impressive, but the character comes through in the rituals. Afternoon tea arrives in the lobby to the sound of a piano, and the Candrian-Bon family remains involved more than a century later.

There are 176 rooms and suites, from single rooms to the expansive Tower Suite. Outlooks vary between Corviglia and the Upper Engadine lakes, while many categories can connect for families. Downstairs, the oak pillars and coffered ceiling of the Grand Restaurant set the scene for dinner in a dark suit and tie. The Suvretta Stube offers a more relaxed route into Swiss and Graubünden cooking.

Winter access is exceptionally direct. The hotel's private lift rises into the Corviglia ski area, with a gentle children's slope, ski school and ski shop close at hand. After skiing, the new spa changes the pace with a 25-metre indoor pool, a heated outdoor infinity pool and a broad choice of saunas and relaxation rooms. A separate children's pool keeps family time part of the plan.
