Choosing where to stay in the Italian Alps

Start with the kind of base you want

Cortina d'Ampezzo pairs a polished mountain town with lifts on several sides of the valley. Alta Badia has smaller villages, strong food traditions and access to the wider Dolomiti Superski network. Alpe di Siusi feels more open and self-contained, with hotels spread between the plateau and the villages below it.

Look closely at the final mile

Two hotels in the same region can create very different ski days. Some begin beside the piste, while others use a public ski bus or hotel shuttle. Arrival can also involve restricted roads, cable cars or a final collection, so choose the setting and access pattern together.

Good to know

Which Italian ski region should I choose?

Choose Cortina for a lively town and several separate lift areas, Alta Badia for village stays, food and linked Dolomiti Superski days, or Alpe di Siusi for broad scenery and a quieter plateau rhythm. The hotel cards make the exact lift access clear.

Are all the hotels ski-in, ski-out?

No. Access ranges from skiing at the hotel to public buses and hotel shuttles. Check each hotel's lift-access detail before choosing, especially if walking in ski boots would shape the trip.

Can I reach these hotels without hiring a car?

Several can be reached by train, bus and an arranged final connection. Others are simpler by car. Each hotel profile separates the timed public-transport stages from cable cars, shuttles and collections so the full arrival is visible.
